The Alien and the Grasshopper

The Alien and the Grasshopper

A grasshopper chanced to meet an alien. "Greetings," said the grasshopper, "I come from a distant plant."
"You mean planet," said the alien.
"Do I?" said the grasshopper. "I thought the word was plant."
"Nah," said the alien. "P-L-A-N-E-T: planet . You missed out the E!"
"Oh," said the grasshopper. "What is a plant then?"
"It's a sort of green object with things living on it," the alien explained.
"And what's a planet?" asked the grasshopper.
"Well," said the alien, "I suppose it's a sort of very large plant."
"I see," said the grasshopper. "In that case you're right. I come from a distant planet!"
"So do I!" remarked the alien. "For I am an alien."
"Now there's a coincidence!" remarked the grasshopper. "But I think that you'll find it's pronounced Ant."
